WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!

Hello and welcome to my humble blog.

My entire life has been upset this past several years ... the recession has kicked me in the privates and I chose to leave a great "keep it until you retire" type government analyst post. Out of fear of an eminent (one that did come of course) layoff I opted to take a buyout. Then I embarked upon a path back to school. I've earned a second masters degree and am now staring the arduous process of a third masters and then a doctorate. I work as an adjunct professor and a teaching assistant as well as a full time "Soccer-Dad"...

I've had to make some tough choices for the good of my family. I've moved away from a solid gaming group to a place where I had no gamer friends. The result is that my gaming pursuits have been utterly decimated and then arisen from the ash in new directions. Even after four years in the strange land of Utah I am trying to re-enter gaming in a strange place ... trying to keep the hobbies that I am passionate about alive. So I'm going to be discussing that, recording my progress. Mostly this blog is about catharsis on my part. I do not profess to be a great authority on gaming or anything really. I just shoot from the hip with ideas and observations. Most of the time I miss, every once in awhile I make a funny or interesting point (I think ... lol).

So beyond all that I have several projects I'm working on from OSR land via Dungeon World to Songs of Blades and Heroes, board games, Oldhammer, Historicals (dabbling still, really haven't fully taken the plunge) to slowly turning a home gaming group of about a dozen people into a full fledged gaming club. Probably a hundred other projects and ideas along the way. I finish some and many fall by the wayside. I am a mortal, normal gamer who suffers from frequent "OH SHINY!" but I keep going and keep coming back to the things I love.

So if you'd care to read about my somewhat diverse gaming pursuits feel free. Again I do this for catharsis and in the hope that maybe some of my ranting might help a fellow gamer out there.

About Me

My photo
The Lord of Excess
First my apology if I'm long winded and rambling but that tends to be my internet communication style. Its a bit shotgun ... gonzo ... in your face ... rather excessive one might say. My earliest exposure to gaming was classic red box D&D in the 5th grade. My childhood was filled with C.S. Lewis and Tolkien so when I experienced D&D I was instantly in love and addicted. However I only had about a 2 to 3 year run of Basic D&D (classic red box) eventually girls, sports and booze would pull me away from gaming. I finally came to my senses and returned to games in 2000 at that time I came back to gaming via Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. I'm a board game fan and a fan of any good RPGing. I have a BA and two masters degrees, I'm married with 5 children, I'm an agnostic and so far left politically I think I might be considered an anarchist ... but if you don't agree with me there no worries as I really try to talk about the things we all love ... games ... and leave religion and politics for other places.
