Ok there has been an "announcement" regarding a Warhammer 40,000 MMO. On one hand I have to say this has been a dream of mine for years and years ... so I should be excited eh? Sadly the game company that the game would be developed under is one of the worst on the planet THQ. If THQ is going to be making the game .. I'll take a pass ... and I'm as much of a FANBOY of 40K as one can be. THQ makes bad games. Dawn of War (the original Relic PRE-THQ buyout) was great ... but the sequels have been some of the worst games of all time. Anyone remember a game called "Fire Warrior." THQ makes bad games and they have ZERO MMO experience. Mythic and EA couldn't even pull off a game that could draw huge numbers of players and with a MMO player base is very important. Bottom line is if GW lets THQ make 40K MMO ... it will suck and it will fail. If Mythic/EA ends up developing the 40K MMO ... that would excite me. Despite Warhammer online not knocking WoW down ... the game was a solid effort and for the most part well done and enjoyable to play.

What I wanna know is how THQ manages to even stay in business. Have they ever made a good game? Who buys their shit? You are right LOE it will be trash. As we have discussed many times GW has some of the best IP out there, but for what ever reason they license it to the worst people suited to represent it.
I think they just take a real short term view with video games. I think they see their core business as just the mini games ... for whatever reason ... and they just look to make a quick buck on the rest. Its like farming out all their board games to FFG. That seems to be their MO ... make mini games and farm the rest out. I wish I had a few hundred million bucks ... I'd buy em ... and milk their glorious IP to billions.
This is sad news indeed. The warhammer MMO was just a sorry rip off of Warcraft IMO, borrowing most of the ideas and adding only a few new ones. The WH IP lends itself such depth and range that these games do not require the classic MMO feel. Why dont they make an awesome world where you can link up with 2 - 10 friends and explore a deep universe for an hour or 12 if you want or can? MMOs in general just piss me off. Gear, grind, stupid.
I agree ... I think a better way to approach MMOs would be constantly changing content. With the way most of them work now ... to me I don't see why that isn't a viable option. So instead of keeping people playing by making lvling, gear, rep grinds retardedly difficult ... how about you just keep the scenery changing to hold peoples interest. Ya ya I know that would require better support ... but what the fuck ... blizzard is making fucking shit piles and shit piles of cash ... mark my words the next generation of MMOs is going to be like that. True ever changing worlds that in and of themselves hold players interests indefinitely ... and I'm not talking cheesy homo seasonal bullshit ... I'm talking about truly massive worlds that are staggeringly large with new instances opening constantly, etc. WoW is a big pile of shit chat room ... yet if anyone wants to de-hypnotize people they need to really blow the doors off the MMO genre ... to date no one has come close to doing that. As you said Will they are just recycling the tired old UO/EQ/DoA/WoW mechanics ... its time for truly path breaking MMOs.
